Nail diseases

The nail plate is exposed to many external factors. Proper care allows you to achieve a satisfactory effect and protect it from damage. It is much more difficult to take care of it in terms of diseases typical of this area. There are many reasons why the plate turns from smooth and pale pink to thickened, uneven and discolored. In some cases, skin care treatments are not enough - specific podological methods turn out to be necessary.

What diseases are nails prone to?

In the event that the area around the plate begins to hurt, and the appearance of both the skin of the fingers and the plate begins to cause concern - certainly the nails have been attacked by a disease.

Among the most common conditions is ringworm. The plaque is then attacked by pathogenic fungi, which can spread. The first symptom is yellowing, followed by keratosis of the plaque.

Psoriasis is another common condition that accompanies skin psoriasis in the area. The first symptoms include the appearance of characteristic gouges, followed by keratosis and dehiscence of the plaque, under which bright yellow discoloration is noticeable.

Ankylosis, another fairly common condition affecting the plate and finger, leads to the appearance of acute inflammation. The changes are visible around the nail - the skin becomes tight, tender and red. It is not uncommon for a pus-filled blister to appear in this area. Over time, inflammation attacks the plate, leading to its deformation. Staphylococcus or streptococcus bacteria are most often responsible for the disease.

Nail treatment

The appearance of the first worrying symptoms characteristic of any condition should prompt a visit to a podiatrist or dermatologist, who will apply the appropriate treatment methods. Ignoring the appearing symptoms can over time lead to more serious ailments and complications. Daily care is also important: the plate should be regularly shortened, trimmed and moisturized. Supplying the body with essential vitamins and minerals will also keep the plaque in good shape.
